3 murders, 3 land grabs, 2 attacks in KZN. Be alert, says AfriForum
AfriForum urged farmers in KwaZulu-Natal to mobilize and prepare themselves for land grabs. This follows after AfriForum was informed during the last 10 days of 3 farms being invaded by land grabbers, 2 farm attacks and the triple murder on members of the Schutte family in Richmond.
“It is quite clear that Government has totally forsaken farmers. Farmers will have to safeguard their own lives and property from now on. It is vitally important that farmers join security networks in order to protect themselves and each other,” said Ian Cameron, Head of Community Safety at AfriForum.
Cameron also told farmers to make sure that they belong to organised agriculture institutions in order to get the necessary support. AfriForum is able to support farmers in terms of security.
The following incidents were reported:
- Richmond (Farm murders)
- Elandslaagte (Farm attack)
- Camperdown (Land grab)
- Karkloof (2 Land grabs)
- Howick (Farm attack)
- Margate (Land grab)
“It is clear that farmers are being intimidated off their land. Farmers must lay a complaint of trespassing with the South African Police immediately if their land is invaded. If there is a branch, AfriForum will intervene to protect them,” said Chris Fourie, Community Co-ordinator for AfriForum in KwaZulu-Natal.
