AfriForum participates in international protest march against farm murders

AfriForum had a very successful international march with the community, friends and family of murdered Christine Robinson today. The march simultaneously took place in Thabazimbi (Limpopo), London (England) Liverpool (England) and Vancouver (Canada) in memory of Robinson, and to put pressure on the South African Government to prioritise farm murders. Robinson was raped and murdered on her farm near Thabazimbi in Limpopo on 30 July 2014.

“Family members in cooperation with AfriForum also handed over 430 letters to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, David Cameron at 10 Downing Street in London. In South Africa, AfriForum submitted a memorandum to the Police requesting them to prioritise farm murders,” said Ian Cameron, Head of Community Safety at AfriForum.

Cameron further explained that a memorandum as well as an open letter from friends and family was read aloud at the respective marches, where-after balloons were released into the sky to commemorate Mrs Robinson and all other victims of farm murders.

AfriForum also submitted a complaint to the British High Commission in Pretoria requesting political and diplomatic pressure on the South African Government.

“According to our statistics, which was calculated conservatively, there has been at least 90 confirmed farm attacks in 2014 and 20 farm murders since the inauguration of the new Minister of Police, Nkosinathi Nhleko in May this year,” Cameron concluded.
