AfriForum requests urgent appointment with police and agriculture minister about farm murders

The civil rights organisation AfriForum requested an urgent meeting with the Minister of Police, Nkosinathi Nhleko, today to discuss possible solutions for the farm murder crisis with him. This follows after at least seven farm attacks were committed over the last two weeks, which includes one murder. This, in spite of a recent allegation by the National Police Commissioner, Riah Phiyega, that the battle against farm murders is being won.

A meeting with the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Senzeni Zokwana, was also requested today.

Ernst Roets, Deputy CEO of AfriForum, said that farm murders not only influence rural communities, but the entire South Africa.

“Despite various clarion calls, it still seems that Government has a careless attitude towards the lives of farmers,” added Roets.

Farm attacks for 2015 already stand at 38, during which 12 murders were committed.
