More farm attacks: Mthethwa’s silence borders on collusion

AfriForum today alleged that the silence of the Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa, on farm attacks borders on collusion. This was in reaction to the news that the bodies of another elderly couple (both between 70 and 75) were found on their farm in the Free State. The man’s body was found on the floor of the tuck shop on the couple’s farm. The body of the woman was found in the freezer.

“The Minister’s silence on the scourge of farm attacks is a disgrace,” said Ernst Roets, Deputy CEO of AfriForum. “If the Minister is serious about the protection of South Africans, he would have declared farm attacks a priority crime years ago.”

Roets added that AfriForum is not only planning to continue its campaign against farm attacks, but to escalate its efforts. More information regarding the next action will be announced tomorrow.

  • Last week AfriForum submitted a complaint to the Public Protector regarding Mthethwa’s irresponsible handling of the farm murder crisis. The complaint is available on request.
